May is a highlight for us in third grade every year. It is the time when we incubate eggs. About four weeks ago I brought in 16 eggs that I hoped had been fertilized by our rooster, Goldylocks (given to us by our friends Michelle and Andrew). Sure enough, Goldylocks has been doing his duty.

The mother hens watched over the eggs carefully.

This one came a day early. We called him Leonardo for the "man ahead of his time."

The kids loved watching.

On day one, Leonardo was joined by a friend and they waited for one more.
Day two, we had seven!

Then there were 10!

By the fifth day, we had 13! That is the final count (hens, I hope!).
