Besides turning into a complete Stave puzzle nut, I did manage to do a few other fun things over my two week vacation. It started out out with Julie's and my trip up to visit the Stave Puzzle company in Wilder, Vermont. Yes, it was a three hour ride but I've always enjoyed that stretch of I-91 and it brings back many memories of swim meets and water polo matches at Northfield, Deerfield, Dartmouth, Middlebury and Williams. So we drove up, visited Stave Puzzles, drooled over their puzzles that we can't afford and went over to Hanover, NH where we had a great lunch at Murphy's Pub.
We also took some time to visit Ikea in New Haven. That brought back memories of Heather in Sweden her junior year when her host family insisted they show us Ikea one night after dinner. This Ikea was much the same (follow the arrow!) and they truly are clever in that store.
Julie and I then headed up to the New Britain Museum of American Art where we enjoyed the artwork and lunch.
This piece of artwork is made up of colored paper and painted plastic cups!
My favorite, a Maxfield Parrish
Julie loves Milton Avery
Besides looking a many Hudson River artists (also a favorite), there were the Thomas Hart Benton murals that originally hung in the Whitney in NYC.
